Favorite Bowie song.

I just traveled way back in time to 2007 and yanked a Frankenmix prompt from the archives. This one is to create the Ideal Romantic Comedy Soundtrack.
I didn’t go all out with plotting, but it’s pretty clearly about a young French girl and an American dude, probably in New York, who enjoy music that is twee as fuck. (I LOVE ALL OF THIS MUSIC. WELL, MAYBE NOT THE FRANCE GALL SONG. BUT I LIKE HER IN GENERAL. IT’S STILL TWEE.)
I’ll include translations of the French lyrics snippets at the bottom.
2. Introduction of the Kickass, Yet Lonely Heroine: Je veux — Zaz
3. Introduction of the Sensitive, Yet Manly Hero: Little Garçon — Born Ruffians
Well I get told to never get old
But the way it unfolds I’m a little garçon in my head
With a little fille that’s stuck in bed
(Heavier on the sensitive than on the manly, obviously.)
(This song just perfectly captures the moment of just getting to know someone and wanting to know everything about them.)
5. Our Heroes Go On a Wacky First Date: A Chicken With Its Head Cut Off — The Magnetic Fields
Well, my heart’s running round
Like a chicken with its head cut off
All around the barnyard falling in and out of love
Poor thing’s blind as a bat
Getting up, falling down, getting up
Who’d fall in love with a chicken with its head cut off?
6. Our Heroes Deconstruct Each Other With Their Respective Best Friends: Ne dis pas aux copains — France Gall
Ne dis pas aux copains
Que je t’aime plus que tout
Ne dis pas aux copains
Ce qu’il y a entre nous
On s’est tant moqué d’eux
Au sujet de l’amour
Qu’ils seraient trop heureux
De bien rire à leur tour
7. Our Heroes Have a Significantly Better Second Date: Don’t Leave Me (Ne Me Quitte Pas) — Regina Spektor
Down in Bronxy-Bronx the kids go sledding down snow-covered slopes
And frozen noses, frozen toes and frozen city starts to glow
And yes, they know that it’ll melt
And yes, the know New York will thaw
But if you are a friend of any sort then play along and catch a cold!
(It’s just fun, and it sounds like walking around the city with someone and just being so glad to be there, and to be with the other person.)
8. The Significant Moment in Which Our Heroes Fall in Love (montage): Hush Little Baby — Yo Yo Ma & Bobby McFerrin
(The lyrics aren’t really important — you all know them. This isn’t really a love song, but it just has fantastic happy movie montage atmosphere. I picture the couple moving into a big sunlit loft that they couldn’t realistically afford and, like, falling on the sofa and kissing and cooking breakfast and things.)
9. Our Heroes Make Love for the First Time: Regarde-moi — Zaza Fournier
10. The Tragic Misunderstanding and Breakup: Hey Ya! — OutKast
You think you’ve got it
Oh, you think you’ve got it
But got it just don’t get it when there’s nothin’ at all
We get together
Oh, we get together
But separate’s always better when there’s feelings involved
Know what they say -its: Nothing lasts forever!
Then what makes it, then what makes it
Then what makes it, then what makes it
Then what makes love the exception?
(Of course I shake it like a Polaroid picture when I listen to this song, but it’s actually insanely depressing.)
11. The Montage of Attempting to Move On and Failing Horribly: Going On — Gnarls Barkley
And you can stand right there if you want
But I’m going on
And I’m prepared to go it alone I’m going on
12. The Montage of Missing Each Other: Cet air-là — April March
Il me reste cet air-là
Qui vient me parler de toi
Car en chantant cet air-là
Je ne peux penser qu’à toi
13. The Chance Meeting: Quelqu’un m’a dit — Carla Bruni
14. The Reconciliation: New Soul — Yael Naïm
This is a happy end
Come and give me your hand
I’ll take you far away
I’m a new soul
I came to this strange world
Hoping to learn a bit ‘bout how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake
15. Closing Credits: Absolute Beginners — Carla Bruni
I’ve nothing much to offer
There’s nothing much to take
I’m an absolute beginner
And I’m absolutely sane
As long as we’re together
The rest can go to Hell
I absolutely love you
But we’re absolute beginners
With eyes completely open
But nervous all the same
Oh, we’re absolute beginners
With nothing much at stake
As long as we’re together
The rest can go to Hell
I absolutely love you
We’re absolute beginners

I’ve looked at way too many album covers today, so now I just need to take a minute to express my ridiculous love for Chuck Berry and his punnish early albums.
If your last name were Berry, can you really honestly say you would be able to resist?
